Anime Guide: Season 9 (Episodes 209-220)
Shura Season Nine of the series started in Fall of 2006. The series would continue its filler arcs to give the manga a chance to get further ahead. The series would finish it's filler with episode 220, and complete the animating of part one content.

The Story Arcs
Episode 209-212: Shinobazu


This filler arc involves Lee, Sakura and Naruto escorting a former mercenary group member to trial. His former teammates move to free him however.

Episode 209: "Teki wa 'Shinobazu' ~ The Enemy is 'Shinobazu'"

A residence is attacked by a group of ninja known as Shinobazu. Naruto, Sakura and Lee are charged with delivering one of these Shinobazu named Gantetsu to the Forest Country by boat for prosecution. They meet Todoroki, the guard captain, whose brother was killed by the group. The boat heads out and it comes under watch by young children. Naruto finds Todoroki threatening to kill Gantetsu and their boat is soon attacked by Shinobazu. The boat is cut in two and Naruto, Todoroki and Gantetsu are separated from the others.




Episode 210: "Mayoi no mori ~ The Forest of Confusion"

Shinobazu attack but the boat goes over a waterfall splitting them up. Naruto's group escapes and travels through the forest. Lee and Sakura rush to help and are attacked by the children. Naruto's group is lost in the mist. Since the forest was Shinobazu's base Gantetsu leads them to safety, revealing Shinobazu wants him dead for stealing from them. They're attacked by a drill wielding Shinobazu. He is soon defeated by Naruto with help from Gantetsu. An angry Todoroki then moves to kill Gantetsu for murdering his family.




Episode 211: "Honoo no kioku ~ Memory of Flames"

Todoroki remembers his house burning and training to get his revenge. Elsewhere the children reveal they are loyal to Gantetsu, who is captured by Shinobazu member Monju. The children state Gantetsu saved them behind Shinobazu's back. Gantetsu gave himself up out of guilt and in the hopes Shinobazu would get captured too. Naruto and Todoroki escape Monju's wire. Gantetsu escapes and Monju threatens the life of Todoroki's brother Akio. Naruto and Todoroki arrive, and he is shocked to see his brother.




Episode 212: "Sorezore no michi ~ Their Respective Journey"

Naruto finishes off Monju and Shura kidnaps Akio. They go to Shinobazu's base to free him. Shura beats Akio demanding to know where Gantetsu hid the stolen treasure. Todoroki charges in and Gantetsu gets captured. The building burns and Todoroki panics, but overcomes his fears to help Gantetsu and his brother escape. Naruto fights Shura and defeats him. Todoroki allows Gantetsu to escape prosecution and raise the kids. Akio remains behind to help.
Episode 213-215: Menma


This filler arc involves Naruto, Neji and TenTen helping an amnesic young man named Menma remember his past.

A village is attacked and a young bandit saves the life of a child, only to fall over a cliff. Naruto finds the boy, who has no memory of his past. The boy has a broken ocarina with him and the hospital catches fire. He saves a baby trapped inside using music from the flute. Naruto names him Menma and he has Naruto help him do good deeds around the village. A pale ninja comes to the village and fights Naruto. Menma uses his music to increase Naruto's power and drive off the attacker.




Episode 214: "Torimodoshitai genjitsu ~ The Recovered Reality"

Naruto, Menma, Neji and TenTen head to the Rice Field Country. Neji is wary of Menma and seeks to capture the pale ninja. They find a burned village and the villagers seek their help in protecting their gold mine. They meet Fuki, the young girl Menma saved who is now mute. Neji states they should move on but Menma wants to stay and help. They build defenses and move to subdue the pale attacker as he spies on them. Menma is injured saving a villager and they recognize he helped attack their village before.




Episode 215: "Keshisaritai kako ~ The Desire to Erase the Past"

Menma continues building the defenses but Fuki and the villagers seek to kill him. Soon the raid begins and Menma saves Fuki and she screams to help him. Menma reveals he regained his memory awhile before, he wanted to start a new life. Naruto defeats Shiin, the pale ninja who raised Menma after he was orphaned. Shiin seeks to destroy a dam to flood the village, but Menma sacrifices himself to blow up the mine and stop the water. Menma is honored by the village and Naruto keeps his ocarina.
Episode 216-220: Four Heavenly Directions


This filler arc involves a ninja group named Shitenshounin (Four Heavenly Directions) who seek to use Shukaku to revive their ultimate weapon Seimei, the founder of their village.

Kakashi finds Takumi Village vacant and its mausoleum emptied. In Hidden Sand the Sand Siblings act as instructors for their new academy students. No student except for Matsuri wants to learn under Gaara. She has bad memories of weapons killing her parents. Shitenshounin, four ninja from Takumi, come and kidnap Matsuri in the hopes of drawing out Gaara. The Sand Siblings go in pursuit and the Konoha 11, minus TenTen, are dispatched to assist.




Episode 217: "Suna no doumeikoku  Konoha no Shinobi ~ Sand's Ally Nation, The Shinobi of the Leaf"

Konoha wants to repay the debt to the Sand Siblings, who split to take on three Shitenshounin members. Temari fights a fellow Wind user, Kankurou fights a segmented sword user and Gaara faces off against a mace wielder. The Konoha ninja track them down. Temari and Kankurou begin to falter and Gaara learns his opponent's armor can absorb chakra. When Temari and Kankurou's opponents move to attack, the Konoha ninja arrive to save them.




Episode 218: "Fuujirareta Suna  Suiko no hangeki ~ The Sealed Sand, Suiko's Counterattack"

Shikamaru and Ino help Temari while Chouji and Kiba help Kankurou. The teams have difficulty working together. Gaara throws his opponent away. Houki, the Shiitenshounin leader has his people form a sealing triangle to dampen Gaara's sand. Gaara has trouble using his wet sand and Naruto and Lee arrive to help. The others work together and finish their opponents while Gaara creates a sand spike to kill his opponent. He then goes after the leader and Matsuri.




Episode 219: "Yomigaetta kyuukyoku heiki ~ The Resurrected Ultimate Weapon"

Gaara corners Houki but he summons his teams' weapons. Naruto arrives, frees Matsuri and moves to help. Gaara is captured in a metal sphere. In Konoha, Kakashi and Jiraiya are sent to help. The sphere sucks out Gaara's chakra to revive Takumi founder Seimei. Houki gives up his body to host Seimei. Seimei proves strong and Gaara begins to lose himself to Shukaku. Matsuri helps Naruto and Gaara breaks out of the sphere in partial mini-Shukaku form.




Episode 220: "Tabidachi ~ Setting Out"

The others arrive and Gaara considers why he fights. The Shukaku parts drop away and he collapses the cliffs to bury Seimei. Seimei shrugs off the attack so Gaara creates and throws a sand spear to kill him. Kakashi and Jiraiya arrive and everyone returns to Konoha. Jiraiya tells Naruto they're going to head out to train. Sakura revives a fish using her medical skills. The Genin think over how they'll need to train too. Naruto eats ramen with Iruka and makes a promise to get stronger. He then leaves Konoha to train for the next two and half years.
