One of the best chapters yet! We finally got to see what truly lead up to the Uchiha massacre and from Itachi’s point of view nonetheless.
I really start to believe the Third was less honourable than we thought at first. Especially after what Danzou told Itachi about him.
The best moment in my opinion was Fugaku’s last words to Itachi. He really was proud of both his sons, no matter what choices they would make. And in a way, Itachi kept his promise to his father by looking over Sasuke.
In addition, it was heartbreaking to see Itachi’s last words to Sasuke. Well done Kishi, well done.

great chapter. wish there was some more to the coup. but its ok.
i want to start geting back to who is tobi.
i think sasuka is going to him now to find out more.
but realy who could tobi be. hes not shisui he cant be madare’s brother ( if they were brothers who fight together why not join up. but they didnt so they cant be brothers). and why does(did) itach always call him tobi? did itach know more?

nevermind it still can be his brother. the reason is he knows his brothers power and dosent want to get in the way. and the way he has lived is when madar was dieing he gave his brother back the eyes so his brother can live. but the only proble is how does he have is eyes when brought back ?

omg amazing chapter. Thats the closets a naruto chapter has ever gotten me to crying. looks like madara really will disaper probably after the next chapter but hopefully he’ll kill atleast one kage. hey i was thinking does anyone else see this as a probably naruto sasuke fight. Naruto contiunes to mock him telling him he cant win and in sage mode just compelty smacking sasuke around even with the EMS. Naruto enters kybui mode and shows sasuke his real powers sasuke gets so frustrated because hes getting beat by a loser and knows he cant win that he activates the rinnegan. i havent gotten past that yet but thats my prediction

@5 Shisui died in a supposed “drowning suicide” rewatch the fight between Danzo and Sasuke I think episode 212 or 213 Sasuke has a flashback of himself over hearing someone tell Itachi that
@6 I think the question is WHAT is Tobi not who if you go back to the Danzo fight as well he takes on two of Danzo’s subordinates one infects his arm with bacteria like insects that destroy cells so he cuts off his arm but there no blood just gooey white stuff. humans bleed also he regains his arm completely in ep 217 no matter how good your healing is growing back limbs is a stretch

i found the episodes Sasuke has the flashback on episode 211 at 13:20, depending on which video you watch.
On episode 208 Tobi fights Danzo’s men at 8:25 he cuts his arm off at 12:25. he doesn’t really cut it off he squeezed it off you can’t squeeze through bone so what he is made of is soft and white and can apparently regenerate because at the end of episode 216 Tobi has his arm back.
Hmmmm what is soft, white, and can regenerate that we know of?

my prediction on what/who is tobi is hes half zetsu, half obito. my theory is real madara before he actually dies, he finds 99.9% dead obito, saves him by mixing his good half with white zetsu. Then madara teaches obito/tobi everything he knows and shares his hatred, obito/tobi inherites the curse of hatred that all uchihas are bound to and obito/tobi attacks the leaf some point after madara dies.
My reasoning on why hes half zetsu is, one tobi can use izanagi, only those with uchiha and senju dna can use that jutsu, white zetsu is made from senju dna, also when tobi squeezed his arm off white goo came out.
My reasoning why hes half obito it because the names are so close, granit thats a lame answer my other thought it when kakashi tried to use his ms on tobi it didnt work, i think thats because kakashi has obitos eye so they counter each other, also their ms eye techniques are similar.

@14 i don’t agree woth one thing: you said that only Uchiha and Senju mixed can do izanagi. I think its not the fact that its both of the DNA bur only uchiha can do it. Its not the fact that its because you have those two dna that you can perform the jutsu but i think its a restricted jutsu that few people know and not because you have the two DNA. Also, you must be uchiha because it is one of that clan’ jutau. So if you are a senju, then there you will probably beed the ichiha dna.
Itachi was able to do IZANAMI but he didn’t have any senju dna!

I’m starting to wonder how many people read the manga carefully? Because some arguments people post on here have make my face go like this: O.o
First the Shisui part:
It is obvious that Itachi killed his best friend on Shisui’s own request. How else could Itachi have gained the Mangekyou Sharingan? (requirement is to kill your best friend remember?)
Second is Tobi’s identity.
He could be an Uchiha, he could be a Senju, he could be both.
Why? Because you don’t need to be an Uchiha to make full use of a Sharingan (i.e. Kakashi uses Mangekyou Sharingan, Danzou used Izanagi and both are non-Uchiha.
Speaking of Izanagi, you don’t need Senju or Uchiha DNA to perform the jutsu, as long as you have a Sharingan it will work. Senju DNA only enhances the period of time the jutsu is activated. Tobi definitely has Senju DNA since he prolonged the Izanagi jutsu for 10 minutes when he was fighting Konan. We do know he is an Uchiha, that fact became certain this chapter, when we saw Itachi meeting Tobi. Either that, or Tobi lied to Itachi being an Uchiha.

@18 um idk if what you are saying is completely true because kakashi has mangekyou sharingan but who did he himself kill to get it. I think the whole kill your best friend thing is obviously a myth to discourage uchia members from unlocking their full potential. Sasuke didn’t kill naruto yet he has mangekyou why is that?
But in the case of Shisui I do think itachi mercy killed him after Shisui gave him his last eye but I don’t think killing your best friend is a requirement. Bkus of the above examples

@18 the izanagi part is correct uchiha can do it and senju will only add to the power. also with the part about ms that the only way to get it that we have been told but look at what #19 sayed great point. also madar and his brother got it by only fighting each other

@18 i agree sometimes i feel like alot of these people dont even read the manga its like wait were u not paying attention they clearly says that cant happen. also @19 u dont unlock it by killing ur best friend but the person closetest to ur heart and simply watching them die isnt good enough u need to feel the emoiton of them dying this was explained when sasuke first got it. Also maybe kaka had the ms during part 1 but never used it due to poor control we dont know

You’re mostly correct. Only thing is, we still don’t know exactly when Madara died and when Tobi took his place. It could’ve been Tobi who attacked Konoha and helped Itachi, but it could also have been the real Madara wearing a mask. Since he did probably not want the leaf to know he was alive, he might have worn a mask at the time to conceal his identity, just like Tobi does now. What might also be an interesting detail is that whoever attacked Konoha actually bled when Minato struck him. When Tobi removed his arm, all that showed was white goo.
Long story short: Might’ve still been the real Madara who helped Itachi several years back.
Another possibility is that it was indeed Tobi, but he’s not a real Uchiha. Do you remember Madara mentioning a plan, most likely of Tobi and his, not unfolding as it should right after he was revived? Obviously, he and Tobi have something working out, so he might as well have given Tobi some exclusive intell on the Uchiha while they were at it.

with the whole ms situation. Itachi killed shisui, got mangekyou. Sasuke killed itachi then got mangekyou. Kakashi either killed or lost someone close to him maybe Rin?

kakashi lost Obito, Rin, and Yondaime Hokage. He takes there death as his own fault. He says when he died when Pain attacked Konoha that he couldnt protect Rin or his master and he is sorry that he is such a failure. I believe that is how he attained he Mangekyo Sharingan, by simply focusing on that pain but who knows, 21 might be right about him having it before and not using it because of lack of control etc. I guess we will have to wait and see..

@19 Killing your “closest friend” is the requirement to obtaining Mangekyou Sharingan. Sasuke gained it after “killing” his brother, who was closest to him. Tobi himself told Sasuke that his battle with Itachi was to give the younger brother a new power, which referred to the Mangekyou.
@20 False. Madara and Izuna did kill their best friends. This was explained by Itachi when he showed Madara’s and Izuna’s past to Sasuke during their battle. Recap episode 136, you’ll see a young Madara and Izuna kill their best friends.
@22 You are correct, the whole Madara-Tobi conspiracy is still a mystery to begin with. We do know they forged the moon’s eye plan together, both Madara and Tobi knew Nagato and they share about the same intelligence about what have occurred during Madara’s life.
@23 + 24 We don’t know what triggered Kakashi’s Mangekyou Sharingan to awaken. Let’s hope Kishi takes his time to explain this before the series end.

hey we havent really talked much about the battle between madara and the 5 kage. my personal belief hes just gonna go away but i think it would be awesome if kaubto put some kind of speical thing of him so that incase he [kabuto] should be defeated madara would still be able to fight alibet at like half stregth or something.

@27 To be honest, I really hope to see the first scenario happen. What would be the most badass situation is either Madara being sealed by a somehow resurrected Hashirama, or Madara being annihialated by Sasuke and/or Naruto.
Why Sasuke? Because Madara hates the Uchiha for turning their backs on him. Sasuke’s motivation would be Madara being the direct cause of the Uchiha discrimination and massacre.
Why Naruto? Obviously because Madara is the direct cause of his best friend becoming who he is right now. Also Madara is the reason why the Uchiha were segregated from Konoha, knowing Naruto’s nature, he would want to take revenge for that one, creating another direct reason for Sasuke wanting to beat the life out of Naruto. This because Sasuke would feel it is his destiny to take care of Madara.
Still, Hashirama would the most badass scenario.

I dont get the whole tobi part in this chapter. Itachi said that Tobi could have his revenge, which I thought meant that tobi would be the one killing the uchiha, but instead it was itachi. or is it that itachi only killed his mom and dad, and tobi killed the rest?

@29 I guess it’s safe to say it is both correct. It was Itachi’s mission to murder the Uchiha Clan, but he knew he needed help since he wouldn’t stand a chance on his own. That’s where Tobi comes in. Tobi wanted revenge on both the Uchiha and Konoha, so Itachi gave him the oppurtunity on the former. It’s not certain who killed which clan member, but it’s safe to say they worked together to kill all of them. Except for his parents, that was Itachi all the way. Honourable in a way.

@ everyone Then how did Shisui activate his MS?
Shouldn’t kakashi’s blindness, loosing his light, already be happening he used MS through out shippuden first on Deidara twice then on Pain then on Sasuke when will he go blind and when he does how will he replace the eye.
Can kakashi have a sasuno? Maybe not a full one but like maybe just a skeleton or something ik some say you need two sharingan to have sasuno but kakashi seems to find ways to use his sharingan to the fullest

How Shisui obtained the Mangekyou is also still a mystery.
Kakashi’s Sharingan is already losing its light. When fighting Itachi’s clone during the Gaara rescue arc, he said to Itachi: “Itachi, how bad has your eyesight become?”
This points out that using the Mangekyou already had its side effects on Kakashi.
As for the Susano’o, you need both Mangekyou eyes to obtain that technique, so the awnser would be no.

@28 as cool as it would be and i hope it does hsppen the chance of hashirama being summoned is slim to none because he was sealed by the 3rd hokage and i dont see enough evidence to prove that it wasnt the real hashirama like people have said in past theories

@38 well the only possibility of Hashirama entering the battlefield would be the clone Tobi has beneath the Akatsuki hideout. Remember that Yamato is stuck within that clone. Yamato was also capable of handling Hashirama’s DNA. What if the Hashirama clone would use Yamato’s body as a vessel to come back to life? It is not completely impossible.

@39 i really hope that doesn’t happen because chances are that would mean yamato dies. Also if the first already did sort of come back as a fusion of madara. Dont forget edo tensi madara is a fusion of the first and himself plus he u know edo tensi unlitimed stamina and regeneration. I think if madara when still alive was to face the 5 kage he would be long dead by now. mostly from exhaustion i mean think about everything hes done pullling down to asteriods, all those wood tech susano near constantly the 25 wood clones usuing susano the perfected susano. I highly doubt that the real madara when alive could have handled all that

Because all the hokage’s were sealed inside the belly of death. His soul cant be ressurected. It would be more logical if tobi or kabuto had turned yamato evil and gave him all of hashirama’s powers.

@42 that would make sense but personally i dont think will be seeing the first. We already saw him battle the third and plus the first is a good guy. I mean using madara who is a bad guy as ur trump card is one thing but to use a good guy thats kind of messed up.

@42 That would make sense as well, although turning Yamato evil does not seem logical to me. Madara already has a part of Hashirama embedded in his chest, which practically means he is the evil version of Hashirama. If Yamato would become in control of all of Hashirama’s powers, he is too powerful to be controlled. But the battle will probably end with Madara dissapearing as a result of the Edo Tensei being stopped, which in my opinion is a very weak ending to a, what could have been, an interesting fight.

@44 think about it this way if the battle ends with madara disappering it would actually be kind of symbolic A showing not even the 5 kage together could defeat him B proving his power and cementing his reputation even more than it already and C showing how vital itachis role in this war.

@48 You made an excellent point there. Nothing to add. The only thing that saddens me is that Madara should have been defeated by either Naruto and/or Sasuke. It’s like Shikaku said during the war, new legends replace the old, whereas Naruto and Sasuke should replace Hashirama and Madara. But that is jusy my opinion.

Tobi is somehow related to Orochimaru in my opinion. At the beginning of the story Orochimaru was experimenting of Edo Tensei. He found and used the cells of Hashirama, and as I remember, no one did the same except Tobi himself. The way Tobi removed his arm and renegated is similar to Orochimaru’s too. Orochimaru joined the Akatsuki to get Itachi’s Sharingan, but Tobi has. It is kind of interesting.. Tobi might be a creation of Madara’s and Orochimaru’s.

i just wanna know how come tobi can use a mangekyo-esque skill w/o activating mangekyo sharingan? and enough chakra to use rinnegan as well? this guy definitely is almost god-like.

Personally, I think of Tobi as a Zetsu clone, and therefore carries Senju DNA. Mystic Vegeta and myself discussed it quite a while back, but it does seems to make more and more sense now.
You said it yourself, Tobi has this white substance which enables an almost instant regeneration. I have never EVER seen Orochimaru regenerate like that. He would regenarte his entire body, or not. But not just certain parts of his body.
Further proof of him being a Zetsu comes in the form of his prolonged use of Izanagi. Uchiha themselves are able to use this technique, but it probably is an instantaneous use of the tech. Tobi was able to use it for 10 minutes and avoid all damage dealt by Konan.
His statement of being ‘nobody’ is also favorable towards him being a Zetsu. Given that he is a creation, it would be fair to claim that he is really ‘nobody’.
It could be very possible that he was just created with the revival of Madara in mind, but with the statment of Kabuto (through Muu) “I am not sure what he will do” it is fairly safe to say that his plan differs from the original.
Finally, the statements of both Itachi and himself about being a ‘shell’ of his former self, that said being an imperfect clone, strenghten my argument.

Granted that he is a Zetsu, and therefore has Senju DNA, I’d say that he is not God-like, but just has enough Chakra to sustain the Rinnegan. Also, he has not actually used the Rinnegan yet (any jutsu I mean).
But is he really is a clone created by Madara, he definitly is not weak…

It would right to assume that he is partly Uchiha. After all, he is able to use the Sharingan for prolonged periods of time. The face was saw was probably Uchiha flesh which was infused for that cause.
Notice the difference between the black and the white Zetsu. It is probably safe to assume that Madara tried to reproduce Tobi, or Tobi tried to reproduce himself (which is more likely), but failed.
Also, like János mentioned, one eye has been covered the entire time, probably to avoid chakra drainage like Kakashi expierences; that part of his body is not Uchiha, so it would take more Chakra to use the techniques. The Rinnegan is less alien to that part of the body (the Zetsu/Senju side) so it would take less Chakra to use it properly. Take not of the fact that Tobi sacrificed his LEFT eye, the one he barely uese, for Izanagi. He later replaced that with the Rinnegan.

This last page of the chapter was one of the best that appear in naruto because two brothers are connected even though they are from different worlds. Naruto has been going HAM as it appears and maybe sasuke will join the battlefield soon. Konoha 12 reunion coming soon…maybe

@sparringpanther the one thing idont like about the tobi being a zetsu clone is why would he wear a mask. we’ve seen black and white zetsu hell weve seen over 100,000 so why wear the mask. Also weve seen under his mask remember he was going to show sasuke there was clearly a old man face behind it. same during the fight with konan u can see an old mans face so how could it be zetsu.

If he was trying to copy Madara, wouldn’t it be smart if he used a mask to cover up his imperfect face? We have only seen one part of his face (the old man part). However, it could be possible that, just for the suprise effect, the other part is a white Zetsu part of his face…
