We recently sat in on a conference call with Tomy to learn new information about the upcoming Naruto Shippuden: Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 coming for Wii later this year. From the call we learned several new interesting things:
Con 3 will feature a new latent power system. In this system, when a certain threshhold is hit, a gauge will glow and the characters will get different abilities. For example Kakashi can use Sharingan without losing chakra or Gaara can use sand attack/defend guard specials without taking chip damage.
Another major new feature is the wake up system from knock-downs. In past one could roll or stand straight up which lead to one dimensional strategies. CoN 3 features two variations, a wake up attack and teleport. Attack is an offense/defense option. Wake up teleport allows ones to teleport but costs 50% chakra. Tomy hopes this will make the game more deep in terms of mind games and trickery.
In the past, throws were generic in past for the characters. Now many characters have unique throws. These new throws are customized to the character. The throws vary between characters, for example some do large guaranteed damage, or less damage but set up for combo.
In terms of modes, most return from previous games. CoN3 features two new modes:
Story mode: Follows first arc, play through all the milestones
VS mode: Features a four player tag team, which is a new mode. This mode will also feature assist attacks.
Free for all
Survival mode
Time attack
Score attack
Kumite mode
Mission mode: Ten missions for each character. In these missions, some condition has to be to met. They increase in difficulty as you play. Missions can also be used to unlock characters.
Wi-fi mode: The biggest new addition to the series. It features ranked matches, rival matches, a leaderboard and keeps track of your win/loss stats. At the present time there is no four player wi-fi.
At present count there are over 35 characters scheduled to be in the game. In the current build, players will start with 8 characters. Some characters are easy unlocks, but some take some time. Any characters you unlock are available in all modes. The characters all come from the Shippuuden time frame.
Tomy also wants everyone to know this is not a localization of a pre-existing Japanese title. CoN 3 features characters not in the Japanese versions, such as Chiyo.

This looks to be a very promising game, especially with the news of new characters not in any of the previous games.

Pish, what good does having all these new features if Tomy uses the samme ***ty graphics for this one as they did the last two? And come on, mario cart wii did the same thing tagging a crappy online scoring system, big woop. ANYONE can do that! Big tip, check out Farrari challenge, see what the Wii CAN do? I think it’s what people just WANT the wii to do graphicwise, which currently sucks with the exception of Metroid prime 3…and a few others…
